Survey of Business Owners and Self-Employed Professionals Reveals Rampant Uncertainty about Pricing and Lack of Confidence When more than 330 business owners and self-employed professionals - subscribers of Marcia Yudkins Marketing Minute newsletter - checked off reasons why their income was not going through the roof, the statement most often chosen was "My clients cant afford to pay that much." And while a healthy percentage in the survey (results posted at www.marketingformore.com/survey.htm) said theyd kept their monetary ambitions modest to better enjoy life, many of the 100+ write-in answers confessed fear, a lack of confidence or self-disparagement. Goshen, MA (PRWEB) September 24, 2003--When more than 330 business owners and self-employed professionals - subscribers of Marcia Yudkins Marketing Minute newsletter - checked off reasons why their income was not going through the roof, the statement most often chosen was "My clients cant afford to pay that much." And while a healthy percentage in the survey (results posted at www.marketingformore.com/survey.htm) said theyd kept their monetary ambitions modest to better enjoy life, many of the 100+ write-in answers confessed fear, a lack of confidence or self-disparagement.
"People who think clients cant afford to pay more are usually kidding themselves," says Marcia Yudkin, author of 6 Steps to Free Publicity and 10 other books and the sponsor of the survey. "If they tout their advantages over competitors, if they highlight the value of their work and if they comport themselves like someone who deserves high fees, clients will pay what they ask without complaint."
Yudkin recently launched a mentoring site, MarketingforMore.com, to help business owners and professionals get beyond their misconceptions and self-doubts to increase their productivity, revenues and satisfaction. The site offers a free downloadable report, "Charge More & Get It," available from www.marketingformore.com/survey.htm, that refutes five common self-sabotaging beliefs about pricing.
"Once people learn the flaws in their pricing assumptions, it still takes time for them to get comfortable with charging more, to be able to state a higher fee without a question or doubt in their voice," Yudkin notes. "They have to do solid work, they have to present themselves effectively, they have to put great marketing into place, but so much of what they need for success takes place in their own minds."
Marcia Yudkins Marketing for More mentorship program includes a members-only advice board, monthly teleclasses with experts like Jay Conrad Levinson and Alan Weiss, access to a star-studded Board of Experts, discounts on products and services and other benefits described at http://www.marketingformore.com. ###
