ECI BIOTECH RECOGNIZED BY WORCESTER CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
WORCESTER, MA, September 20, 2001 -- ECI Biotech, a protein design and expression company based in Worcester, was recognized for its rapid growth and expansion in a ceremony hosted by the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce. ECI was formally acknowledged this morning in a Breakfast Club Salute that featured well-known New England newscaster and personality Chet Curtis as keynote speaker. ECI was similarly honored in June by Massachusetts Biomedical Initiatives, an organization that promotes biotechnology and medical device companies throughout Central Massachusetts.
We are delighted to have ECI as part of the Worcester business community," said Mark Love, President of the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce. ECI is truly a model for the biomedical industry and is certainly leading most local biotech companies in terms of its rapid growth and product development. Judging from its performance in the past few years, we expect that ECI will be a strong contributor to the future economy of the region through continued job creation and corporate stewardship," added Mr. Love.
The city of Worcester has been very supportive of our efforts, and we are grateful for this recognition," said Mitch Sanders, President and founder of ECI. The Chambers ongoing support will be important as ECI looks toward further expansion, as well as our first product launch, later this year."
In just three years since its establishment, ECI has developed two novel protein technologies for use in scientific research, food safety diagnostics and wound healing. The company intends to launch its line of research products later this year.
ECI Biotech, headquartered in Worcester, Massachusetts, is a protein design company focused on the dynamics of protein structure. Proteins are complex molecules that function according to unique three-dimensional arrangements that confer upon them the ability to perform almost every essential function of living things. ECI has developed two distinct technologies based on monitoring and preserving protein structure: protector proteins" enhance protein stability and functioning in unfavorable conditions, while detector proteins" sense changes in protein structure that indicate a chemical shift in the environment. The Company intends to license its protein technologies for use in large industries with unmet needs, including food safety, medical diagnostics, industrial chemistry and consumer goods. The Companys product pipeline includes a diagnostic kit for detecting the pathogenic bacteria Listeria monocytogenes, a leading cause of meat and poultry recalls, as well as two advanced wound care systems designed to provide early warning of emergent infections and to promote healing.
