Brisbane, AUSTRALIA (PRWEB) November 17, 2004 -- Single Step Media
Single Step Medias web site (http://www.thetao.info) is nearing 5,000 registered members. The site explains Taoism, yin and yang and Lao Tzus Chinese classic, the Tao Te Ching. Members have access to the full version of the Daily Tao software and special offers. Due to the large number of comments and questions from members about Zen Buddhism, Single Step have produced a new web site: About Zen - http://zen.thetao.info
Taoism is a 2,500-year-old Chinese philosophy that attempts to explain the flow of nature. Its foundation text, the Tao Te Ching" is the second most translated book in the world, after the Bible. It is the source of famous sayings such as A 1,000 mile journey starts with a single step" and Those who know dont speak. Those who speak dont know."
Zens origins lie in ancient India. The Buddha was giving a teaching to his followers however, instead of a verbal teaching, he simply held up a flower. One of his disciples, Mahakasyapa, smiled. The Buddha said: "Today, I gave a silent teaching and Mahakasyapa alone understood it." This was the birth of Zen. Since 520AD, when Zen arrived in China, it has been influenced by Chinese culture.
The two traditions (Zen and Taoism) have co-existed thorough Chinese and Japanese history. Both the Tao and Zen advocated understanding without reliance on words. Zen and Taoist masters are both famous for apparently eccentric behaviour. Both seek wisdom from meditation, reflection, and direct appreciation of nature. It isnt surprising than that many people find both appealing.
Both sites feature free software that explains their topics plus hundreds of images of ancient temples and gardens. Both sites include original texts and book reviews.
Single Step expects the Zen Garden section to be the most popular at the new web site based on the large number of enquiries from About the Tao" visitors. For this reason a free Zen Garden Screensaver, displaying some of the worlds most famous gardens, was prepared.
