Los Angeles Mayor Jim Hahn Formally Endorses Petition Drive to Retain the Original LA County Seal
Citing historical reasons and the right of the people to vote on the issue, Mayor Hahn issued the endorsement.
Los Angeles (PRWEB) April 26, 2005 --Los Angeles Mayor Jim Hahn, son of former LA Supervisor Kenneth Hahn, has issued a formal written endorsement of the current petition drive involving the original LA County Seal.
Supervisor Kenneth Hahn, the Mayor's father, was instrumental in the design and adopting of the original seal in 1957.
The grassroots effort which has been compared to the Howard Jarvis Prop 13 drive, was initated after three County Supervisors voted to remove the cross from the Seal, rather than fight a threatened law suit in a letter received from the ACLU. The same Supervisors, then voted not to allow the voters to vote on the issue.
The effort has united Religious groups of all Faiths and individuals of all political parties.
Mayor Hahn is currently involved in a re-election campaign against the former president of the ACLU, the group responsible for the cross being removed from the County Seal.
He joins his sister, Councilmember Janice Hahn, in fighting for the right of the people to vote on the Seal in June of 2006. He also cited historical reasons for the endorsement.
David Hernandez, Petition Drive leader, San Fernando Valley Advocate and former candidate for Mayor in the Valley Secession effort, welcomed Mayor Hahn to the historical effort to save the original LA County Seal.
