MedX Launches New Medical Technologist Recruiting and Immigration Service

Conshohocken, PA (PRWEB) August 31, 2007 -- MedX, a leader in enterprise workforce acquisition and international hiring, announced today the launch of a new Medical Technologist recruiting and immigration service. Medical laboratory personnel make approximately 70 - 75 percent of all medical diagnoses in the lab. The role of Medical Technologists becomes increasingly important as the aging of the baby boomers and new technological developments in diagnostic testing increases demand for these types of services.
The Medical Technologist shortage is just as serious, though less well publicized, than the nursing shortage. The US Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that 13,800 medical laboratory professionals will be needed each year through 2012 just to fill vacant positions. Unfortunately, only an estimated 4,000 individuals are graduating from Medical Technologists degree programs each year in the US. Schools offering these types of programs have been steadily evaporating and have declined approximately 30 percent since 1994.
"Medical Technologists can come to work in the US under the H1B visa program," explains Jennifer Oullaf, director of operations at MedX. "The process is much less complex than the green card process. We can have skilled candidates here in under four months, ready to work." Medical Technologists can work up to three years under an H1B, which can be extended for an additional three years. The extension does not count toward the cap of H1B visas issued annually. Additionally, employers can choose to sponsor their Medical Technologists for a green card once they are employed in the US.
With offices in Manila, Philippines, and POEA (Philippine Overseas Employment Administration) licensed, MedX is uniquely suited to source and immigrate qualified medical personnel for shortage-affected roles in the US.
"Quality of care suffers when health care workers are employed in environments struggling with vacancies, turn over and enforced overtime," says Jennifer Santoleri, vice president at MedX. "This is especially true for rural health care facilities or those long distance from the remaining Medical Technologist schools. The best short term solution is to get those vacancies filled with skilled international workers, who have been licensed, tested by the appropriate US board and sensitively acclimated."
The cap for H1B visas for 2007 has already been reached. However, many organizations can continue to acquire qualified Medical Technologists under an exemption. Organizations exempt from the H1B cap are non-profit organizations related to or affiliated with an institution of higher education, non-profit research institutions and non-profit governmental institutions.
