Beyond the Shadow of Turandot

Marietta, GA (PRWEB) September 26, 2007 -- Deliverer, the musical returns Sept. 28th - 30th to the Anderson Theater at the Cobb County Civic Center, competing for the Atlanta theater going audience who can also choose from two of Giacomo Puccini's great works: La Boheme and Turandot this weekend.

The original production of Deliverer, written and directed by Atlanta resident Douglas Tappin, is a modern representation of Moses and the children of Israel fleeing a life of bondage from Egyptian tyranny.

"When Puccini wrote the music of Turandot more than 80 years ago he did so with great passion in order to move the audience of his day to feel, to weep, to be inspired," said Tappin. "But the shadow Puccini cast by Turandot and his other operatic works such as La Boheme, Tosca & Madama Butterfly was one so deep that no 20th century operatic composer has been able to move beyond it."

Nevertheless, this week in a theater not far from the Cobb Energy Center and the Fox, Deliverer opens; and like other genre-defying works such as West Side Story, Jesus Christ Superstar, and Les Miserables it seeks to move and inspire contemporary audiences.

"Deliverer is a bridge between fluent expansive operatic form and the theatrical consciousness of a discerning 21st century audience," said Tappin.

Deliverer premiered in London, England in 2003, and the US premier was at Cobb County's Anderson Theater in September of 2005. This fall, Deliverer returns to the Anderson Theater for a second run - two years of development to every aspect of the production promises an extraordinary run of performances.

Show times are Friday 9/28 at 8pm, Saturday 9/29 at 3pm and 7pm and Sunday 9/30 at 6pm. Tickets are $12 and $15 and can be purchased online: www.delivereronline.com.

Deliverer the musical is an original production created by Douglas Tappin, produced and supported by Mount Paran North.
