NYC Gothic Vaudeville Show Asks, Can Goths Laugh?

Between Dimensions is a neo-vaudeville gothic variety show that puts the "mental" back in "experimental" performance. Featuring Gothic belly dancers, performance poets, and musicians who tend towards the unusual, it is the environment in which the Voodoo Sisters attempt to answer the question, "What is Goth?" by answering, "THIS is Goth!" and bludgeoning the audience over the head with mind-blowing works of art that we love.

New York, NY (PRWEB) March 30, 2008 -- New York has seen it all -- or has it? On April 13th, a bellydancing duet known as the Voodoo Sisters will produce NYC's first all-Gothic vaudeville show

"The Voodoo Sisters Present: Between Dimensions was conceived as a place to showcase the gothic subculture in all its forms, providing a place for the darker side of poetry, dance, and music to flourish," says Magdalena Voodoo, a professional poet in addition to her bellydancing activities. "We wanted a place for people to show work that is too strange, too dark or just too category-defying for other venues."

The eclectic nature of the performances gave rise to the name, "Between Dimensions." The show's format, incorporating poetry reading, music, performance art, and dance, gives a nod to the old vaudeville format, where clowns, magicians, and dancers performed in series, taking the audience through comedy, tragedy, wonder, and terror in the course of the show.

"We like to say we're putting the 'mental' back in 'experimental' performance, not only because we have funny as well as serious pieces onstage, but because we want people to think about their own dark sides, and see how many ways there are to let it out and make friends with it," says Melissa Voodoo, a somatic Pilates instructor by day. "We hope to make this show a running series so more people can hold up a mirror to their darker selves and admire the view."
