Slate Media Applauds New Florida Interlock Legislation

Company helped lead critical media strategy to secure passage in Legislature

Tampa, FL (PRWEB) June 20, 2008 -- Slate Media Chief Executive Officer James Gillen today applauded the passage of a measure that will help combat drunken driving in the state of Florida. Gov. Charlie Crist signed legislation earlier this week that will strengthen the state's policy regarding interlock devices, which prevent people who are under the influence of alcohol from starting their vehicles. The measure was a legislative priority for Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD).

Tampa-based Slate Media, Inc., worked cooperatively with MADD to produce a strategic media package that helped the organization communicate its critical message to Floridians, including key policy makers.

"We can finally celebrate this new piece of legislation, a new tool, that will help fight the battle against drunken driving," Gillen said. "Working together with MADD, we were able to communicate a clear and compelling message that made a lasting impression in the hearts of many."

Slate Media produced an informative media presentation to illustrate the function of the interlock device - and how tougher restrictions on previous drunken drivers can save countless lives across the Sunshine State. The presentation, distributed to members of the Florida Legislature, included a touching story of a mother whose young daughter died after they were involved in a drunken driving crash.

"Slate Media's outstanding work to help get these life-saving initiatives in front of the legislators, community leaders and the public was crucial to our success," said Donald Murray, executive director of MADD, Florida. "These devices will help ensure many, many previously convicted drunken drivers will no longer be able to re-offend and threaten the lives of innocent Floridians.
