Global Officer Complaint Center Offers Justice for Victims of Police Misconduct

Each year in the United States, tens of thousands of cases of police officer abuse and brutality go unreported and undocumented, often with long-lasting consequences for innocent members of the public victimized by officials sworn to protect them. With today's launch of the Global Officer Complaint Center, victims of police misconduct finally have the opportunity to seek the justice they deserve.

Plantation, Fla. (PRWEB) October 24, 2008 -- Each year in the United States, tens of thousands of cases of police abuse and brutality go unreported and undocumented, often with long-lasting consequences for innocent members of the public victimized by officials sworn to protect them. With today's launch of the Global Officer Complaint Center (http://www.copcomplaints.com), victims of police misconduct finally have the opportunity to seek the justice they deserve.

The Global Officer Complaint Center allows members of the public to file complaints against police officers in a safe and open environment online. Each complaint is logged in a database accessible by members of the public. The site also allows users to submit cases, which are automatically supplied to attorneys, who can then review each case and work with victims to seek justice and demand answers.

"Victims of police misconduct have a voice, and we're listening," said Amy Follansbee, co-founder of the Global Officer Complaint Center. "Police officers, as a group, represent the best of society, and play an important role in protecting our democracy. But too often 'bad apples' in the police force use the trust of society to do wrong and victimize those they were sworn to protect and serve. As citizens, it's our sacrosanct duty and responsibility to be vigilant and stand up against misconduct from our police forces."

According to a recent "Police Services Study" funded by the United Sates government, more than 13 percent of those surveyed had cause to complain about police service in the previous year. However, fewer than 30 percent followed through with a formal complaint. This large disparity reinforces the need to actively report and prosecute police misconduct.

Complaints posted to the Global Officer Complaint Center are treated as allegations, and users are required to agree not to post libelous or otherwise flagrantly defamatory content.

There is no cost to submit a complaint. All posted complaints are easily sorted by state, officer, and county. The site also offers an Attorney Locator, providing access to a database of local attorneys.
