Louisiana Lt. Gov. Landrieu Welcomes Dignitaries from 70 Countries to World Cultural Economic Forum

"New World of Opportunity" Is Theme for Exploring Economy Fueled by Culture

New Orleans, LA (Vocus/PRWEB ) October 30, 2008 -- "Today we begin our journey," announced Lt. Governor Mitch Landrieu as he welcomed 70 international delegations and a crowd of over 750 people to the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans this morning for the start of the three-day World Cultural Economic Forum (WCEF). The WCEF was created to build cultural economic development opportunities by bringing together cultural ambassadors and leaders from around the world.

"I am thrilled with the great response from our friends across the globe. We are working together to explore the true potential of an economy fueled by culture," said Lt. Governor Mitch Landrieu. "After the hurricanes of 2005, the world reached out to Louisiana. We have gathered the world here at the World Cultural Economic Forum to speak with one voice and move toward a common vision that culture is the key to a better future. I thank you for joining on this journey. Together, we will discover exciting new possibilities where culture and commerce intersect."

Highlights of the first day of the forum included an overview of the European Agenda for Culture by His Excellency Renaud Donnedieu de Vabres, Culture Ambassador, European Union, France and a keynote luncheon address by the Honorable Mary Landrieu, U.S. Senator, Louisiana.

The Tremé Brass Band, Zulu Connection Stilt Walkers and Mardi Gras Indians Collective launched the opening of the World Bazaar and Marketplace at 5 p.m. The Bazaar features art and performances from across the globe as well as five regions of Louisiana. It is open free to the public for shopping the art of the world and enjoying from 10 a.m. 'til 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday. For more information, please visit www.wcefculture.org.
