ATVI is reawrded a $3M grant by USAID for expansion and further development of the institute.
Vienna, VA (PRWEB) November 12, 2008 -- Knowlogy International announces the award of $3,000,867 in support of the Afghanistan Technical Vocational Institute (ATVI) (www.atvi.edu.af) by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) (www.usaid.gov). Starting September 2007 through February 2010, the grant assists the school's pursuit of academic excellence and educational opportunities for the citizens of Afghanistan. This grant was awarded as part of USAID's Capacity Development Program (CDP). The objective of the USAID Capacity Development Program (CDP) in Afghanistan is to strengthen the public, private and NGO sectors.
ATVI is the product of a very successful public/private partnership between the ANHAM, LLC (www.anham.com) affiliate Knowlogy International (KI) (www.knowlogy-intl.com) and the Government of Afghanistan.
The overall goal of ATVI and CDP is to improve the quality of Afghanistan vocational and technical education programs. The USAID grant furthers the activities of ATVI in the provision of technical vocational training for Afghan nationals. ATVI's primary objective is to graduate a cadre of qualified technicians from ATVI with workforce readiness skills for immediate employment in the areas of construction, agriculture, information technology and vehicle maintenance.
USAID/CDP will provide $3,000,867 in support of this project over a period of the next two years.
Funding for ATVI will include rapid expansion into other Provinces. As such, ATVI will use its own funds to plan, staff and open an additional center in at least one Province prior to June of 2008. "We are delighted that Bearing Point/USAID is contributing to the expansion of ATVI. This will enable us to increase the number of students from 650 to 1,200 a year," stated Mr. A. Huda Farouki, CEO of ANHAM, LLC.
CDP will continue to provide technical assistance as outlined in the following Program Components Operational Sector.
The funding is designated for two primary program components and activities:
1. Operational Sector:
ATVI will hire and train additional instructors, create an intensive English Language Training (ELT) module to be incorporated within all training, provide career counseling, job placement, and registrar services for ATVI students, establish a vocational technical association, and acquire new equipment, materials, and software to support the expansion of classroom activities.
2. Scholarship for Students to Attend ATVI:
ATVI commits, based upon an academic year of a full twelve months - March to March, the Scholarship fund will be applied to support the 600 students currently enrolled specifically for the months of September 2007 through March 2008, and in support of the 750 students for the March 2008 through March 2009.
"The added state-of-the-art educational equipment will put ATVI on the same educational level as top vocational schools worldwide," stated Mr. Farouki.
About ATVI:
ATVI (www.atvi.edu.af) is a co-educational facility in Kabul, Afghanistan, where students are competitively selected through an examination process for the one-year condensed course. ATVI provides training for male and female students, drawn from Kabul, other major cities, and the rural areas. As a co-educational institution designed to support and educate all potentially productive members of Afghan society, ATVI strives to maintain a minimum threshold of 10% female enrollment. Courses are offered in our key training sectors: Automotive Systems Technology, Information and Communications Technology (ICT), Building and Construction Trades, and Horticulture. ATVI faculty and staff are highly qualified; all hold international educations, degrees, and certifications. More than half of the faculty members hold a Master's degree or higher.
In order to build a self-sufficient, income generating institute, ATVI incorporates profit centers as a major component of its operations. These profit centers benefit the Institute, the local community, and the student as they provide the hands-on experience needed to compound and complement the education provided in the classroom. Designed to be mutually beneficial, the profit centers offer students the opportunity to experience and train for their chosen career in a real-life environment, the local community purchasing the service is charged a competitive and affordable fee, and the provided revenue is used to maintain scholarship programs and facility upkeep.
