San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) December 27, 2008 -- After winning over audiences and critics in 20 countries around the world last season, the Divine Performing Arts' Chinese New Year Spectacular is back, with 11 shows at the War Memorial Opera House Jan. 7-11 and the Flint Center for the Performing Arts Jan. 13-15.

Last year, critics hailed the show's "superb talent," "beautiful costumes," and "wonderfully positive karma." This year the show's performers, Divine Performing Arts, are back to present more performances in San Francisco with their all new programs for the 2009 World Tour.

"This state of the art show contains captivating dancers, traditional costumes and mini-dance drama with narratives about Chinese legends and historical characters and events... The production is a vision of loveliness from the very first moment" reads the Talk in Broadway.

Starting from December 16, hundreds of world's foremost trained classical Chinese dance artists, vocalists and musicians from Divine Performing Arts are on their grand mission of 2009 World Tour. Separated into three troupes, Divine Performing Arts will simultaneously tour over 70 cities, 20 countries on 5 continents in the next 6 months. In January 2009, over one hundred artists from DPA will be coming to San Francisco, 40 of them are with a ground-breaking live-orchestra and 60 artists are dance artists and vocalists.

Guided by Chinese- and English-speaking hosts, the show's dozen or so separate acts depict the rich history and ethnic makeup of China, from the story of the famed Song Dynasty general Yue Fei to Mongolian, Manchurian, and Tibetan dances. The show also touches on problems facing modern China, including suppression under China's communist regime.

"The dances were graceful, delicate, and beautiful! There was something pure and bright and also very dignified about them. This show gave me a real sense of goodness and meaning in life," said Anna Liceica, Soloist for the American Ballet Theatre.

"Besides its professional excellence, the Spectacular exudes a wonderfully positive karma," reads the Philadelphia Weekly.

Through their performances, Divine Performing Arts, a non-profit group based in New York, says they seek to breathe new life into traditional Chinese culture, which has been stifled under the regime. All indications are that they've succeeded.

"As an artistic director, I feel that cultural opportunities especially for our young people, cultural opportunities that are appropriate in educational, in inspiring and motivating young people. It's so important to have that. The ability to get an insight and to see another culture, and to get kind of a quick 5000-year history of Chinese culture in a beautiful presentation like this is phenomenal. It's absolutely phenomenal. We need more of this." concluded by Dr. Rudnick, the Artistic Director of a performing arts school in Cincinnati on Dec. 23, 2008 after the performance.
