Texas Fish & Game Contributes $200,000 to CCA Scholarships

Texas Fish & Game has contributed $20,000 scholarships to STAR kids division of CCA-Texas' popular State of Texas Angler Rodeo (STAR) tournament each year.

Houston (PRWEB) January 21, 2009 -- Texas Fish & Game has contributed $20,000 scholarships to STAR kids division of CCA-Texas' popular State of Texas Angler Rodeo (STAR) tournament each year since 1997. Texas Fish & Game owners Ardia and Roy Neves believe strongly in CCA and are proud of their long association with the conservation organization.

"Not only has CCA, as a conservation juggernaut, been directly responsible for the health and resilience of Texas' saltwater resource, they created one of the most effective angler recruitment programs ever devised with the STAR tournament," said Roy Neves.

Each year, the STAR tournament, attracts more than 40,000 Texas anglers, through an innovative combination of millions of dollars in prizes and the length of time the tournament runs, from Memorial Day to Labor Day each summer.

Another of STAR's great innovations is its inclusion of a youth division, STAR Kids, which provides $20,000 and $50,000 scholarships to young winners. "These scholarships bring thousands of young anglers into the tournament, and into fishing," said Roy Neves. "The chance to put their kid through a good school inspires a lot of parents to include the children in their fishing trips. Even if they don't win the big prize, the family still wins."

"We are excited to be a part of STAR every year," said Ardia Neves. "To be there when the scholarships are handed out to those kids, with their parents proudly looking on, is something you just can't put a price on."

Of course, in the real world, education does have a price, and Roy and Ardia Neves are happy to have been able to contribute significant funds that not only have provided scholarships to many young STAR winners but have also helped CCA attract so many young people to its tournament, which in turn has kept them interested in fishing.
