Database Of Available Toll Free Phone Numbers Running Dangerously Low, According to Tollfree Advisory Committee

Industry Scrambles To Address Concerns.

Washington, DC (PRWEB) March 2, 2009 -- In recent months, members of the Tollfree Advisory Committee at SMSGOV.com have been repeatedly warning of the decline of available toll free phone numbers. And, now, fears that the database is running dangerously low has industry experts scrambling to find a solution and encourage the FCC to release reserved toll free area codes.

The addition of the reserved 855 and 844 area codes would bolster the depleted stock of toll free numbers and ease the burden within the industry. New area codes released in the 1990s temporarily fortified the existing toll free stock, allowing millions of businesses to secure profitable 1-800 numbers.

But with the FCC keeping mum on the release date of additional toll free numbers while available supplies rapidly drop, insiders are becoming increasingly worried about an industry meltdown.

Elevating concerns, a recent report released to the FCC by the Federal-State Joint Board on Universal Service cites a six billion loss in collective revenue for toll free service providers. Without new area codes to sustain availability of toll free, the industry appears to be at imminent risk.

With economists predicting that the failing U.S. economy could continue its downward spiral in 2009, advisors at SMSGOV.com say the limited availability of toll free numbers could have a substantial impact on small companies nationwide. If the issue isn't addressed quickly, business owners looking to secure 1-800 numbers may find the supply of suitable numbers has vanished.

To offset the anticipated impact of this scarcity of 1-800 numbers, the Tollfree Advisory Committee strongly recommends the release by the FCC of the reserved toll free area codes in 2009. For additional information, go to SMSGOV.com.
