Vancouver, BC (PRWEB) March 12, 2009 -- A local training option has arrived for individuals and companies in BC and Alberta who want to reach customers through Google, Yahoo and other internet search engines. Successful online marketing can be a cost-effective means of sales and can open up wider markets for products and services. Based in the Kelowna area the Search Engine Academy of Western Canada offers training in Vancouver, Kelowna and Calgary and is just the third of its kind in Canada, following Toronto and Montreal. Future expansion is planned to other cities.

The Academy offers basic and advanced instruction in search engine optimization and marketing. It offers individuals the option to learn in a small classroom setting, with individual instruction and mentoring.

The company also offers private, in-house staff instruction for larger companies, allowing for specialized instruction within a specific industry.

According to the co-founder of the Western Canadian academy, Muriel Archibald, instruction includes information on emerging trends. "For example we examine the implications of personalization of search, and how we, as online marketers, need to react." Search personalization will mean that searchers might see results that have been filtered to reflect not only their location but also their individual interests.

Archibald also believes a workshop setting has advantages over web-based training. "Students have a chance to do exercises and group brainstorming sessions that relate directly to their own Web site. And in a small class with two instructors there's lots of time for individual attention." Archibald shares instructional duties with company co-founder Shelly Coe. Archibald adds an ongoing mentoring program helps students implement what they learn.

The Search Engine Academy of Western Canada has already scheduled four local SEO workshops. Details can be found on the Academy website and SEO blog.

Upcoming Workshops

March 30 to April 3 - Vancouver
June 15 to 19 - Kelowna
September 21 to 25 - Calgary
October 19 to 23 - Vancouver

The parent organization, The US-based Search Engine Academy, provides training in locations in Canada, the US, Europe and Asia.
