"We want to be aware of the most possible student service activities to ensure The Student Leadership Awards are granting those who are truly making a difference," said Robert A. Maginn, Jr., Chairman of the Jenzabar Foundation and CEO and Chairman of the Board of Jenzabar, Inc. "The nomination deadline has been extended to give busy students, higher education faculty and staff, and non-profit organizations the time they need to nominate outstanding student leaders."

The Jenzabar Foundation 2009 Student Leadership Awards will recognize seven student groups and their respective leaders for demonstrating a commitment to making a difference through community service projects and/or humanitarian endeavors either in the United States or globally. The Foundation will award service grants to each of the honored groups or activities, recognizing achievements in each of the following categories:

  • Local community support to individuals or groups that are underserved by existing community resources
  • International humanitarian efforts
  • Campus ministry programs that reach beyond campus boundaries
  • Education outreach to groups or individuals not enrolled in the institution
  • Environmental protection, natural resource management, alternative energy promotion, or climate/habitat awareness
  • Health care provision or awareness
  • Issue advocacy targeted to local, state or federal governments
Nominations are open for students enrolled in any accredited institution of higher education and can be submitted by individuals, educational institutions, or non-profit organizations that have produced work consistent with the mission of The Jenzabar Foundation: to recognize and support the good works and humanitarian efforts of student leaders serving others across the global community.

Criteria and nomination process information may be found on the Jenzabar Foundation Web site at www.thejenzabarfoundation.org. Applications are due by April 14, 2009.

Evaluation of nominees will be based on the content of submissions spotlighting the positive impact and value the group or project has brought to the beneficiaries of its service. The honorees will be announced at Jenzabar's Annual Meeting (JAM 2009), to be held in May in Washington, D.C.

The Jenzabar Foundation was established to recognize and support the good works and humanitarian efforts of student leaders serving others across the global community.
