Hair Loss Solution Growing Despite Economy

Laser hair company experiences growth in down economy, offering a solution to men and women with thinning hair.

Houston, TX (PRWEB) May 28, 2009 -- In a sharp contrast to the rest of the country, according to owner Jeff Stanifer, Lasermax is expanding its business. "We're booming," he said recently, "Despite the economy, or maybe because of it, more men and women are looking for help to fight hair loss."

Lasermax is a four year old company that manufactures the first overhead hair laser marketed for home use. ($549 at www.thelasermax.com) Laser hair restoration is a relatively new technology that has, until recently, only been available in two flavors: professional laser clinics and laser brushes for home use; both of which have their downsides.

Doctors have opened professional laser clinics across the country in recent years. Clients come in several times a week to sit under overhead laser systems that bombard the scalp with multiple lasers, often over 100. Clients pay $3,000 or more for a six-month treatment plan, now out of the question for many in this economy.

Men and women with thinning hair can also buy laser brushes designed for home use, which typically come with one to fifteen lasers in the device, which the user has to brush over the scalp manually. They spend between $300 and $600, depending on the model. According to Jeff, he hears many complaints that the brushes are difficult to use.

"I think we're expanding because we offer the benefits of the clinical lasers at home, but at the cost of the brushes," said Jeff. "You can just sit under fifty overhead lasers, and your arm doesn't get tired." His company's main offering is a 50-laser overhead model with two panels, although they sell a 90-laser model as well. The 50-laser unit sells for $549, in the same price range as the laser brushes.

Jeff states that his biggest hurdle in selling the lasers is his low price. Customers ply him with demands to know if he's for real. "They want to know how I can sell fifty lasers at the same price as a one-laser brush." Jeff states "My overhead lasers don't come with any fancy timers or LCD displays, so the costs are much lower."

Public awareness of the technology is on the rise too. "We got a nice boost from Oprah last month." Jeff continued, "She just mentioned the technology of treating hair loss with lasers and we people started to call in off that. We may have to start hiring more people soon."
