West Newbury, Mass. (PRWEB) November 2, 2009 -- KidzsackTM, an innovator of creative, eco-friendly toys, announced today that it has been selected for the 'A Visit from Saint Nicholas' holiday giving program sponsored by the Volunteer Center of Southern Arizona, located in Tucson, Arizona. The annual program provides individual backpacks filled with books, toys and essentials to disadvantaged children in the greater Tucson area. This year, the eco-friendly Kidzsack was selected to hold Saint Nicholas' treasures. Its unique multi-functional design allows it to be used as a bag, as well as a craft project, making it the perfect bag for Saint Nicholas' treasures.
This year on December 4th, Saint Nicholas will visit over 3,000 children at 14 public schools. Hundreds of community volunteers will come together on Wednesday, December 2nd to pack the backsacks. They will be distributed to low income school children from pre-k through the second grade. Saint Nicholas himself, donned in a white brocade costume with long white beard, will then arrive at each school via two helicopters, mustangs or police cruisers to watch the delight of the children as they arrive to find their gifts. Since the program was launched in 1997, the Volunteer Center of Southern Arizona has delivered backpacks to over 42,000 children to celebrate the holidays.
'A Visit from Saint Nicholas' honors the feast day of Saint Nicholas, who lived in the 4th century and was known for his charity and philanthropic spirit. Today Saint Nicholas is celebrated as a children's holiday throughout the world and represents the human kindness that builds every community. The legend of Saint Nicholas exemplifies the spirit of volunteerism.
"I am so pleased that Kidzsack is a part of this great tradition of philanthropy. For many children, this may be their only gift this holiday season. It sends a message of hope and kindness, and lets them experience the joy of the holidays," said Tina Hill, president of Kidzsack. "Children are our greatest resource and this program is a great model of how we can give back to our community to create a better future."
The Kidzsack bag is a line of multifunctional backsacks for children - it is both a bag and a craft project. Each backsack is screen printed with an original design, and has an inside pocket that hold 8 non-toxic, water-based markers. Every child can color their Kidzsack anyway they wish. When they tire of that look - mom or dad can just wash it and the child can start all over again. Made of eco-friendly, 100% recycled cotton/poly canvas - the Kidzsack can hold a soccer ball, books, or whatever the young explorer desires. It is perfect for the beach or travel. Earlier this year, the Kidzsack was awarded with Dr. Toy's 'Best Play and Learn Vacation Award' for 2009 and Creative Child Magazine's Best Toy Award.
