Boston, MA (PRWEB) November 4, 2009 -- Sean M. Ellsworth recently participated as a panel speaker at the American College of Trial Lawyer’s 2009 Annual Meeting. The prestigious organization invited Mr. Ellsworth to speak on the topic of "The Dark Side of Technology in Jury Trials" after his successful defense in the case of United States v. Serge Francois, which involved a federal Internet pharmacy prosecution in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida. After a two-and-a-half month trial and over one week of jury deliberations, the judge declared a mistrial due to juror misconduct, specifically because a juror had conducted outside research using the Internet -- leading to a front-page article in the New York Times titled, “Mistrial By Google.” After the mistrial, the United States dismissed the indictment against Francois and returned approximately $100,000 it had seized.

Sean M. Ellsworth is the founding member and managing partner of the Miami, Florida-based Ellsworth Law Firm, P.A. The firm specializes in complex criminal and civil litigation. Mr. Ellsworth, who is “AV Rated” by Martindale Hubbell and is a member of the Florida Bar and the Massachusetts Bar, was also recently a featured speaker at the recent Southeastern Health Care Fraud Institute in Atlanta, Georgia.
