(Vocus/PRWEB ) November 4, 2009 -- FIT's ePortfolios online admission system has received the Center for Digital Education and Converge magazine's Digital Education Achievement Award in the sustainability category. The ePortfolios system allows prospective students to submit their art and design portfolios online, rather than having to mail or present them in person. FIT is one of only a handful of colleges to use the ePortfolios system for electronic submissions of portfolios for students who are applying to the college.

The Digital Education Achievement Awards commend exceptional K-12 and higher education websites, projects, and programs across the world. The awards also recognize educators, students, parents, and volunteers who are creating meaningful education experiences for students using digital technology.

"This year's nominations were outstanding," said Marina Leight, vice president of the Center for Digital Education. "Increasingly, education leaders are raising the bar of technology accomplishments. The awardees demonstrate that teachers, students, and technology officials are collaborating for improved learning resources and innovative educational experiences."

"This online portfolio submission option was an immediate success," said Gregg Chottiner, vice president for Information Technology and chief information officer at FIT. "The first student used the system within minutes after it was available. Approximately 300 applicants used the system during the first application period."

"We look to e-portfolio as an 'applicant-centered' portfolio submission process that will make the application process much easier," said Joanne Arbuckle, dean of the School of Art and Design at FIT. "We anticipate that this process will be available for all of the college's Art and Design associate degree programs for fall 2011 applicants."

FIT's ePortfolios online admission system was also the recipient of a Campus Technology Innovators award earlier this year. Read the full story here:
