Salt Lake City, UT (Vocus/PRWEB ) June 2, 2009 -- At Burton Group's Catalyst Conference North America 2009, where experts, enterprise technologists and IT vendors will convene in San Diego, July 27-31 to discuss the changing identity management market as it tries to keep pace with a more mobile and global Enterprise.

2009 sees a historic convergence of disruptive trends in the identity market. A new tech-savvy generation is entering the workforce with new attitudes and expectations, and with new consumer information technology in its pockets, just as the economy which has supported the previous generation's IT budgets and architectures experiences its worst crisis in a century. And the economic crisis undermines more than the bottom line; it undermines the public's trust in institutions. Burton Group research director and VP of the Identity and Privacy Strategy, Bob Blakley will discuss these disruptors that are designed to exploit these new expectations and new rules of identity and privacy.

Burton Group is hosting a single sign-on interoperability event this year, focusing on hosted, SaaS or cloud-based applications as the trend of utilizing off-premise applications continues in the enterprise. This demo will illustrate how standards such as SAML, WS-Federation, OpenID, and others can be utilized. Where supported, identity providers will also demonstrate just in time provisioning of user access. Several hosted or SaaS application participants have been identified, including SalesForce.com, Google Apps, eXpresso Corp, WebEx, and others will be announced in the near future. An advanced scenario is being developed that combines SAML 2.0 and OpenID to meet NIST's Level 1 through Level 3 identity assurance guidelines.

Kunal Mittal, Executive Director of Enterprise Technologies at Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) had one challenge: he needed a complete picture of users across the enterprise to mitigate risk and leverage the significant investments they had already made in directory, identity management, and application infrastructures. In his presentation, Mittal, will describe how SPE overcame this challenge--in less time, for less money--by virtualizing existing identity resources. He will discuss how his team used virtualization to provide a complete profile of all users across disparate data silos, and provide insight into SPE team's process of identity virtualization, showing how their overall IT strategy mapped back to their business strategy of focusing on risk mitigation.

Renowned for in-depth discussion of substantive IT issues, Catalyst brings together over 2,000 attendees from Fortune 500 and Global 2,000 companies to learn about and discuss significant technology topics and complex issues facing enterprise IT organizations.

*This year, Catalyst will focus on eight pivotal tracks that are transforming the future of enterprise IT:

  • Virtualization: The Key to the Dynamic Data Center

  • Identity Management: Making it Pay Off
  • SOA is Dead; Long Live Services
