Galveston Island, Texas (Vocus/PRWEB ) April 2, 2009 -- The Tremont House, a Wyndham Historic Hotel and Historic Hotel of America, will reopen in June following a complete restoration of its first level. Located in the 1879 Leon H. Blum Building in the heart of historic downtown Galveston, the hotel sustained flooding on its first floor following Hurricane Ike's impact on Sept. 13, 2008.

The hotel's restored lobby and Toujouse Bar area will continue to reflect a European-style hotel decorated in black, white, grey and green palettes, featuring new JANUS et Cie furniture, new Calacatta marble and an expanded front desk to serve guests. The historic Toujouse Bar, which dates back to the 1870s was not damaged by the storm. The hotel's pianist will continue to entertain guests Thursdays through Sundays.

A new stylish café featuring Starbucks coffee, a pizza oven and light fare will serve guests. In the evenings, it will transform into a chic wine bar offering guests casual dining and selections from some of the finest vineyards. Designed to appeal to travelers' mobile computing needs, the new café will feature 42-inch plasma televisions, Internet booths, complimentary Wi-Fi and printing capabilities. The Tremont House also will offer free Wi-Fi in the lobby and guest rooms.

The hotel's remodeled fitness center will be equipped with Paramount weight equipment, as well Precor treadmills, elliptical cross trainers and cycles all fitted with 12-inch personal flat screen television screens and MP3 and iPod docking stations.

The hotel's meeting space and adjacent meeting space on the first floor of the Davidson Building also were heavily damaged and have been completely restored. The hotel is converting space on the first floor to a new 700 square foot meeting room with windows facing Mitchell Street (24th Street). The Davidson Ballroom on the second floor, which was newly redecorated, was not damaged.

The Tremont House is one of the first hotels in Texas to offer allergen-friendly guest rooms and meeting space through the upscale chain's new Wyndham ClearAir™ initiative. Utilizing a comprehensive purification system designed by New York-based Pure Solutions NA, Wyndham ClearAir rooms undergo a multistep cleaning process designed to remove up to 98 percent of allergens.

Downtown Galveston will celebrate its return with a Re-Birth-Day Celebration on Saturday, May 30 from noon to 8 p.m. rotating through four downtown locations. The festivities will include street entertainers, live music, Radio Disney, and tours of The Tremont House.
