51/50 Brings Some Swagg to 101 Distribution
Lafayette Duo to Release 'Swaggfest'
Phoenix, AZ (Vocus/PRWEB ) May 7, 2009 -- Major labels are guilty of duplicating swag. Record executives often travel to popular hip-hop spots looking to sign the next big thing, but they usually end up with the same damn thing - the same type of rap artists who have the same type of flow, the same type of style, and of course, the same type of swag.
Fortunately, there's something different brewing in Lafayette, Louisiana and hometown rap duo 51/50 is looking to introduce their unique swagger to the forefront of the hip-hop world. Signed to Precise Entertainment, the lyrical tag team (comprised of 22-year-olds Dough Boy and Young Killa) have released their mixtape debut, "Swaggfest," exclusively through 101 Distribution.
"It's the swag era. Everybody talking about swag," Dough Boy says. "We just basically want to show the world we got the best swag and we got a whole mixture of different type of music on there. It's just a swag festival - a big collaboration of swag and music for the people to love and enjoy."
"We really just wanted to show our versatility on the mixtape and we could bring more than one aspect on the table because a lot of rappers are one dimensional," Young Killa adds. "And we wanted to show we can come from different angles."
Swaggfest, hosted by DJ Sexy Lex, is full of rich musical bangers such as "Act Like You Know," "Make A Wish" and "Trampoline" that will keep the energy on any dance floor electric all night long. Further more, this collection wouldn't be complete without a few swag anthems like "Definition Of A Swag" and "Swaggy Nasty."
Dough Boy and Young Killa formed 51/50 four years ago, and have branded their name, and swag, all throughout Louisiana. They progressed their skills over time, which would pay them in dividends later on as they secured a management deal and a contract with Precise Entertainment.
Between being raised in different parts of Louisiana, as well as having other movements such as Ratchet and Screw influencing their home base of Lafayette, 51/50 is a melting pot of their vibrant environment.
"I'm from New Orleans, and Young Killa is from St. Francisville right there near the Baton Rouge area. We bring two different styles: they have the jig in Baton Rouge, in New Orleans we got the bounce and buck music. If you come to Lafayette, it has that different type of accent," Dough Boy explains. "With Texas being right there with the screw music, we just put it together and really come with it."
