O/E to Present at a Major Society of Manufacturing Engineers’ Event
The Troy, MI-based Safety and Leadership Development firm joins roster of speakers at the Lean and Green Resource Center Presentations.
Troy, MI (Vocus/PRWEB ) May 7, 2009 -- O/E Learning, a key player in safety improvement and leadership development, has been added to the roster of the Society for Manufacturing Engineers’ prestigious Lean and Green Resource Center’s presentation at EASTEC. O/E will be represented at the conference by Phil La Duke, Director of the Performance Improvement Division. La Duke will present Reducing Worker Injury Costs by Applying Lean Principles. The presentation identifies how lean principles not only support safety, but can drive and be driven by safety.
“When O/E developed SafetyIMPACT!, we started by examining how lean principles could be used to lower worker injuries,” says La Duke, “and what we found was that there were huge areas of overlap between lean principles and the values that make the workplace safer. There is no reason that safety, productivity, and quality should be mutually exclusive; in fact, we’ve learned that it’s difficult to affect one without also impacting the other two.”
EASTEC is the largest East Coast annual manufacturing event and one of the largest such events world-wide. The Lean and Green Resource Center consists of three days of presentations by internationally renowned experts on topics related to lean manufacturing and environmentally friendly manufacturing technologies. O/E will present on the relationship between lean manufacturing and worker safety.
“We’ve had outstanding successes implementing SafetyIMPACT! at companies such as Daimler Truck. Thomas Built Buses, Freightliner Custom Chassis, Williams International, Henry Ford Health System, and others,” explains La Duke, “and, in many of these cases, we were able to use SafetyIMPACT! to drive standard work, 5S, TPM, and other lean and green tools. I’m excited that we’ll get to showcase this intersection between process improvement and safety improvements. O/E has saved its customers many millions of dollars by lowering injuries and reducing the related costs; I think this presentation will connect the dots between safety and productivity for a lot of people.”
O/E has long prided itself on being at the forefront of leading edge processes and technology and believes that this topic is of paramount importance. “SafetyIMPACT! is generating a lot of interest within the executive suites both domestically and internationally,” explains Rick Vlasic, CEO of O/E. “Of course, when you help customers to achieve seven- and eight-figure returns on investments at a single location—and you do that in less than a year—you’re going to generate some genuine excitement—especially in this economy. But what I like most about presenting at this prestigious venue is that it spotlights the relationship between safety, process improvement, and waste reduction; as important as that is, it’s often overlooked.”
EASTEC is May 19–21, 2009 in East Salem, MA and Reducing Worker Injury Costs by Applying Lean Principles will be presented on May 19 at 10:30 a.m.
SafetyIMPACT! (www.safety-impact.com)
SafetyIMPACT! is a culture-based safety system designed to reduce worker injuries and lower costs through the implementation of six values and four practices common to the world’s safest companies. Central to this system is a proprietary database that records hazards, identifies the root causes of these hazards, and tracks them to correction. The philosophy that is the foundation of SafetyIMPACT! is that all injuries can be prevented by identifying and removing the hazards before workers are injured.
