Tallahassee City Commissioner Gil Ziffer Tours Danfoss Turbocor

Tallahassee City Commissioner Gil Ziffer toured the Danfoss Turbocor facility in Tallahassee today to discuss the company's innovative, energy-saving technology. Ziffer met with Danfoss Turbocor executives to learn more about the company’s advanced compressor technology, which makes air conditioning equipment more efficient, significantly reduces energy consumption and has created upwards of 150 green-tech jobs at DTC and approximately another 150 jobs at network suppliers.

Tallahassee, FL (Vocus/PRWEB ) November 4, 2009 -- Tallahassee City Commissioner Gil Ziffer toured the Danfoss Turbocor facility in Tallahassee today to discuss the company's innovative, energy-saving technology.

"As cities and counties across the nation continue to look for ways to save energy and protect our bottom line, it is critical that we involve cutting-edge, green-tech companies like Danfoss Turbocor in our policy discussions," noted Ziffer. "While this tour provided a behind-the-scenes look at how the product is made, the next step will be identifying ways in which might use the compressor on a larger scale to reduce our energy footprint across the City of Tallahassee."

"Policymakers across the nation now realize that the renewable energy industry means jobs and economic development, and we're proving it right here in Tallahassee," noted Ricardo Schneider, president and CEO of Danfoss Turbocor. "Commissioner Ziffer had the opportunity to see those jobs in action today, as local Tallahassee residents came to work and manufactured this energy efficient product. Now we must identify ways to deploy these compressors to other facilities in Florida that seek to become more energy efficient and environmentally sustainable.”

Ziffer serves as the Lead Commissioner on the City of Tallahassee's Environmental and Energy Resources Target Issue Committee, which develops and recommends long-range conservation and sustainability initiatives and seeks more effective management of city operations, including electric utility operations. Ziffer also serves with Mayor John Marks on the City's Economic Development Committee, which aims to create and expand economic opportunities and diversify the Tallahassee region's economy by encouraging investment and creating jobs.

"We certainly hope that building managers, and perhaps the City of Tallahassee, consider using this homegrown, energy efficient product in new buildings and retrofit chillers," concluded Ziffer. "Not only will the compressors lower our energy use; they will also lower our energy bills--something that we could all use these days."

Ziffer's visit follows a recent tour by Rep. Michelle Rehinkel Vasilinda (D-Tallahassee) and by Governor Charlie Crist, who explored the facility and discussed green tech jobs with employees and executives.
