“The Verdict: The Renaissance marks
a return to form that rivals Q-Tip’s best
work on Tribe’s beloved 1993 album, ‘Midnight
Marauders’,”
– The Los Angeles Times
“With Kanye and Lupe taking cues
from his style, it would seem to be Tip’s
time again. But rather than cash in, he goes his own way: on his mind,
war woes and spiritual forces.”

Poetic MC may have rediscovered his groove.”

NEW YORK (Business Wire EON/PRWEB ) October 30, 2008 --
Q-TIP, one of hip-hop’s greatest
originals and defining figures, promises to pursue nothing less than ‘THE
RENAISSANCE’ of hip-hop music and
culture, with the release of his first Universal Motown solo
album physically in-stores November 4, 2008 and available digitally now
due to the overwhelming demand from the online community.
“The online demand to hear the new Q-Tip
album was so high that we worked with all of our digital retail partners
(ie iTunes, Rhapsody, Amazon MP3, Walmart MP3, MySpace Music, Napster)
to make the album available for purchase to their consumers before the
planned street date. We’re excited to be able
to have the flexibility to respond so quickly to Tip’s
fans and allow them the opportunity to purchase ‘THE
RENAISSANCE’,”
says Cameo Carlson, SVP of Digital Business Development for Universal
Motown Republic Group.
His opening shot comes in the thick, hypnotic Seventies-inspired soul
beat and persuasive come-hither entreaty of ‘Gettin’
Up,” the digital single now available for
download on iTunes and Amazon.com. The video, directed by Ben Dickinson,
has already been streamed well over 400,000 times on Youtube. The
primarily self-produced album finds the ‘Renaissance’
man joined in guest spots by creative peers including Raphael Saadiq,
Norah Jones and D’Angelo. The November 4th
release day chosen for ‘THE RENAISSANCE’
coincides with a moment imbued both with history and with the
long-sought promise of change.
As a member of A Tribe Called Quest, Grammy award winner, Q-Tip,
changed and advanced both the sound and the lyrical agenda of rap,
recording with the group a string of five classic gold and platinum
albums over eight years. He diverse sound has spawned collaborations
over the past five years with artists such as the Black Eyed Peas,
Pharell, Sergio Medes, and The Chemical Brothers. Q-Tip
closed the Nineties with his first gold-certified solo album Amplified,
the crossover smash “Vivrant Thing”
and collaborations with Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Janet
Jackson, REM, Missy Elliott and Lucy Pearl. ‘THE
RENAISSANCE’ is Q-Tip’s
first complete studio album in nine years.
