Americans Taste Buds Have Spoken: Democratic Ice Cream Flavor Whirl of Change, Wins National Popular Vote

CANTON, Mass. (Business Wire EON/PRWEB ) October 21, 2008 -- The polls have closed, all chads are in check, and every vote has been counted. Baskin-Robbins®, Americas favorite neighborhood ice cream shop, today announces the winner of its presidential Flavor Debate 08. Americas palate has spoken and named Whirl of Change, representing Democratic presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama, the winner with 51 percent of the popular vote. Nearly 500,000 people voted for their preferred flavor during the Baskin-Robbins presidential Flavor Debate.

From Sept. 2 through Oct. 20, 2008, Baskin-Robbins invited ice cream lovers from all flavor affiliations to vote with their taste buds and choose between Baskin-Robbins two new election-inspired flavors: Whirl of Change and Straight Talk Crunch. Voters of all ages were able to cast their ballots at any of Baskin-Robbins 2,700 stores nationwide and online at www.baskinrobbins.com.

The Baskin-Robbins Flavor Debate provided a snapshot of Americas views by opening the doors for citizens of all ages to voice their choice before Election Day.

The Baskin-Robbins Flavor Debate 08 was a close race throughout the six week polling process, mirroring the true head-to-head race between Senators Obama and McCain. In the end, every vote mattered and Whirl of Change came through with a slight two percent lead over Straight Talk Crunch. While the Flavor Debate election polls closed on Oct. 20 at midnight, the limited edition election flavors will remain available at all Baskin-Robbins stores through Election Day, while supplies last.

The Flavor Candidates:

Whirl of Change (D): Peanut-nougat ice cream whirled with chunks of chocolate-covered peanut brittle and a caramel ribbon

Straight Talk Crunch (R): Caramel ribbon, chocolate pieces, candy red states and crunchy mixed nuts swirled into White Chocolate ice cream
