Americans’ Taste Buds Have Spoken:
Democratic Ice Cream Flavor Whirl of Change, Wins National Popular Vote
CANTON, Mass. (Business Wire EON/PRWEB ) October 21, 2008 --
The polls have closed, all chads are in check, and every vote has been
counted. Baskin-Robbins®,
America’s favorite neighborhood ice cream
shop, today announces the winner of its presidential Flavor Debate ‘08.
America’s palate has spoken and named Whirl
of Change, representing Democratic presidential candidate Senator
Barack Obama, the winner with 51 percent of the popular vote. Nearly
500,000 people voted for their preferred flavor during the
Baskin-Robbins presidential Flavor Debate.
From Sept. 2 through Oct. 20, 2008, Baskin-Robbins invited ice cream
lovers from all flavor affiliations to vote with their taste buds and
choose between Baskin-Robbins two new election-inspired flavors: Whirl
of Change and Straight Talk Crunch. Voters of all ages were able to cast
their ballots at any of Baskin-Robbins 2,700 stores nationwide and
online at www.baskinrobbins.com.
“We are thrilled with the turnout for
Baskin-Robbins Flavor Debate ’08 and hope it
has helped to excite and inspire Americans to vote on November 4,”
said Scott Colwell, Baskin-Robbins global marketing officer. “The
Baskin-Robbins Flavor Debate provided a snapshot of America’s
views by opening the doors for citizens of all ages to voice their
choice before Election Day.”
The Baskin-Robbins Flavor Debate ’08 was a
close race throughout the six week polling process, mirroring the true
head-to-head race between Senators Obama and McCain. In the end, every
vote mattered and Whirl of Change came through with a slight two percent
lead over Straight Talk Crunch. While the Flavor Debate election polls
closed on Oct. 20 at midnight, the limited edition election flavors will
remain available at all Baskin-Robbins stores through Election Day,
while supplies last.
