San Diego Robots First Non-humans to Attend a Mensa Gathering
Two Robots named W-E and E.V.E. are among the 170 registered attendees for San Diego Mensa Regional Gathering, which is being held at the Mission Valley Hilton over the memorial day weekend. The program which starts on Friday May 22nd at 5 PM and finishes at noon on Monday includes talks by thirty seven scintillating speakers on a variety of topics ranging from Nature Photography to "Making Intimacy Sexier", a Mensa Idol talent show, a Creative uRGe award ceremony, a Chocolate uRGy and a visit by the smartest animals from San Diego Zoo.
San Diego (PRWEB) May 22, 2009 -- Two Robots named W-E and E.V.E. are among the 170 registered attendees for San Diego Mensa Regional Gathering, which is being held at the Hilton Mission Valley over the memorial day weekend.
"Mensa regulations permit non-members to attend a regional gathering as guests," said LaRae Bakerink, president of San Diego Mensa. "W-E and E.V.E. were registered for the RG as guests by a local member. Mensa takes no stand on politics, religion or social issues, including any stand on legal rights of intelligent robots."
"I am still very confused on what food arrangements I need to make for these robots," said Joan Johnson, the hospitality chair for the San Diego Mensa Regional Gathering. "As is, we have challenges with all those specialized diet needs we need to cater to -- vegetarians, vegans, diabetics, lactose or gluten intolerant, those who hate mayonnaise, and now I need to worry about robots."
Among other notable attendees for the RG is Vedhas Pandit, a lifetime Mensa member from Mumbai, India. Vedhas is traveling to San Diego specially to participate in the Mensa Idol competition, where he intends to perform the academy award winning song "Jai Ho", teaming with team members born in Puerto Rico and northern California whom he has never met before.
MENSA is a 100,000 member worldwide organization with membership limited to people in the top two percentile of IQ. People can qualify for Mensa membership by taking a supervised, standardized test or by submitting evidence of prior testing in the form of scores from a supervised, standardized test like the Stanford Binet, the Miller Analogies Test or the GMAT.
A supervised test is being offered on May 23 at 10 AM at the the Diego Mensa Regional Gathering at Hilton, Mission Valley - La Jolla Room. Anyone who would like to take the Mensa Admission Test on this date should arrive by 9:30 AM on May 23rd at with a photo ID. As a special offer on this test date only, test takers will receive a pass to enjoy all of afternoon and evening activities at the San Diego Mensa Regional Gathering, including a light lunch.
Age to take this test is 14 and older. Persons under 18 must provide prior signed parental approval. ID is required for all applicants. Candidates should allow 2 hours for the test which is a series of short, timed IQ type tests.
In addition to the Regional Gathering, San Diego Mensa is also hosting Mind Games in April, 2010. Started in 1990, Mind Games is one of the most respected national games competitions where Mensa members gather and play new-to-the-market games over a three-day period and rank their favorites.
