Ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba Hosts National Day Celebration

Al Otaiba, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to the United
States, welcomed hundreds of guests to the U.A.E.
Embassy on December 2, 2008 to celebrate the 37th National Day of
the U.A.E.

Al Otaiba greeted each arriving guest personally and delivered brief
remarks on the status of the U.A.E.-U.S. bilateral relationship. Guests
included senior U.S. government officials, foreign Ambassadors and other
diplomats, representatives of prominent think tanks, and business
leaders.
“In just 37 years, the United Arab Emirates has become a model of
progress and tolerance. An Arab and Muslim nation, and a modern one as
well,” said Ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba in his remarks, noting the
country’s stunning economic development, the prominent role women play
in Emirati society, and the fact that many of the world’s greatest
universities now have a presence in the U.A.E.
The U.A.E. enjoys a broad and comprehensive relationship with the United
States, based on mutual economic and security interests. Ambassador
Yousef Al Otaiba reminded the attending crowd of the close bilateral
ties, noting that “In the past decade alone, we have witnessed an
exponential growth in our military, security, economic, and cultural
relations.”
This was the first time Ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba hosted the annual
event as the Ambassador to the U.S., having
taken up the Washington, D.C. post in July 2008.
